The Stirling Rangers was formed by singer/songwriter/guitarist Jason Norris in 2009 after the dis-banding of Cyclone Jason & the Hurricanes who, formed in 2004/5, won the Open Band Section (Best W.A. Country Music Award) at the W.A. Country Music Awards in Boyup Brrook in 2006, Performed 22 shows at the 2007 Tamworth Country Music Festival, placed second in a band competition at the Tamworth Festival, and , in 2008, Jason won the Best Senior Songwriter's Award at the '08 W.A. Country Music Awards in Boyup Brook.

Primarily the "Rangers" are an Original country and folk outfit playing over 25 original songs written by Jason , but do perform at venues and functions playing a wide variety of country classics by artists such as such as Paul Kelly, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash etc.

The"Rangers" had a lineup change in 2013 with Margaret River local identities Dave Seegar (Bass Guitar) and Tony Lane on Mandolin and Fiddle. Both perform together around the Margaret River region as "the Brothers Thin". And, another addition in 2015 with Canadian Kevin McDonald on Electric Lead Guitar, Dobro Guitar and Banjo.

At the 2016 WA Country Music Awards Jason & the Stirling Rangers were nominated for "Band of the Year" and also "Album of the Year". In the past 12 months the band, based in Margaret River, have released an EP of original songs and have been performing at venues and functions all over the southwest and occasionally get to visit in-land towns. The "Rangers" are planning a follow-up EP in the winter of '16 and plan to tour more often in the coming 12 months.
